Know a little more about the Open-Limping
Poker, little by little, has become a game of global strategy. With a boom in the United States spread quickly, this game modified its perspective a long time ago and stopped being considered a mere game of chance. Mainly because of the mental acuity of those who practice it. In this game, the strategies and movements of each player are calculated with treachery to ensure a good game. The resources in this game, more than physical, are mental. Strategic planning, and how to go hand-in-hand, are characteristics of a veteran or more skilled players in the game.
The Strategic Movements used by the Players
In that sense, taking risks is, at the same time, an advantage and disadvantage in poker. However, one of the strategic movements that players sometimes use, both men and women, is open-limping. When an opponent wants to enter a hand, he usually does so by raising the initial bet, this, without exceptions, in order to match the blind. In the case of open-limp, it is considered a movement of less capable players.
As a general rule, when a “recreation” player, who might well be called an amateur, performs an open-limp, he seems to think critically about the play. These are also the opponents who show greater aggression during the plays, and although this attitude can create a facade of self-confidence, they do not always give fruitful results.
Any person would identify a recreational poker player taking into account the times he cleans. Although this is not a sin in this game, the objective of this class of rivals is to use hand movement with which you can look at the flop at the lowest price range. Bet, but do not risk too much. Due to the transformations that poker faces, like most strategy and chance games, there are certain things that could have been banned from wrong in other times, but that is not the case nowadays. With the open-limp that happens, and the variants will be explained one by one.
Open-Limp can be Used for the Benefit of the Players
However, although this movement is not highly recommended in poker, players must learn to use it and analyze it, as it is a game resource; and in this case, the more tools there are, the harder it will be for the rest of the rivals to face the players with better tactics. Having mentioned the above, it is necessary to find situations in which the open-limp can be used for the benefit of the player:
- As a movement, the BTN “limp” with the objective of entering a postflop boat against the blind at a very low price. Now, the hands with which it is going to be closed are necessarily subject to the stack and the characteristic profile of the player in the blinds. For example, a low As may be a movement that arouses the interest of limping in exchange for a more profitable stack, which accumulates more than 30/50 bbs. However, if the stack is less than 15 bbs, it is necessary to apply pressure from the preflop
- The hands that must also be cleaned during the button are, in general, the offsuited and suited connectors, this because they are too complicated and risky hands if the other opponent plays aggressively.
The open-limp, currently, is handled more in competitive series than in games that involve money in between. That is, it will be more common for this strategy to be used in tournaments than in a casino where the greatest interest is the profit and not the game strategy. As mentioned before, the weakest and most aggressive players are the ones who most use this strategy. However, how can you deal with a player of this nature effectively and tenaciously?
The profile -or common factor- of this class of players is measured taking into account different characteristics: If the 3bet blind versus blind is high (beyond 15%) and if the WWSF is too. In front of these players, their other playmates will face using the open raise and strong hands to respond equally to their level of aggression. However, it is also advisable to open occasionally with weak hands to get folds of this player.
Another way to recognize this aggressive-passive poker, and put them against the sword and the wall with the open-limping, is analyzing their strategy. It is easier to go for the player who for intrinsic reasons does not protect his blind, either because his play cannot be carried out with fierceness, or, on the contrary, they have a very profitable postflop. In all these cases, the player who faces or executes a limp must take into account that the fewer hands he opens, the more he can gain from the open raises, so he plays successively a few weak hands in order to mislead.
At this point, and not to lose the focus of the true core, we must analyze other situations where it is valid, but not recommended, to perform an open-limping:
- Limping in the small blind: originates from the advantage that the player has to guard the BB when it is going to be used in large ranges. However, this “prosperous” position, compared to the other rivals, converts the open raise from the SB into a very unfavorable move, so it is better to do a limp instead.
The great disadvantage of this -clear the SB-, is definitely that one of the rivals will use in their favor, to charge, the equity of their most marginal movements. In this case, as in the previous one, it is necessary to study the profile of the opposing player. By definition, many fans and poker professionals agree that open-limping and giving away money can work as synonyms and that it is a waste. In spite of it, it is a strategy merely executed to drive back the villains.
About this play, and taking into account the above, is that it is executed. That is, if a small blind scenario is presented where the hand comes clean and the player has a Premium, it can be used to isolate the villain. The open-limping is an important risk, and the simplest solution to avoid falling into it is simply not doing it. It is, in some way, the recommendation given by many players, in the first place because it limits the range, especially if it is rivaled by an observing player, and secondly because the latter can charge the lack of strategy in the play.
To avoid falling into the open-limping discipline is necessary and the creation of skills in the game. The main thing is to alleviate the fear, because this play compromises money in the boat when it is out of position, or perhaps at a disadvantage. With the open raises, the disadvantages can be compensated and get ahead, but limp constantly limits to a point that does not leave too many probabilities open.
Explained the reasons why yes and why it is not advisable to do an open-limping, the player must think and start from his initial strategy thinking about what is best for him, and sometimes it is better to find the average between passivity-aggressiveness. In poker, certain strategies will achieve durability and longevity, but this being a complex sport, the specific situations of each move must be analyzed. In this game, due to its complexity, context matters considerably when talking about plays.
The most important in these cases, not to fall back on strategies whose execution can trigger adverse results, is to plan on the fly, according to the plays that are arising and are developing, with the sharpness and alacrity to identify the profile of each player who faces.
